A Tennessee high school football star, Dana Payne, died on his way to the hospital when he was tackled during practice.
The 15-year-old was tackled by one player in the mid section of his body. After he was hit, it seemed he had trouble breathing from what witnesses say. Payne was on medication for asthma.
Family friend Frank Sharp, who frequently drove Payne to practice, told the Memphis Commercial Appeal: “I heard the lick but I didn’t see it. He got up but then he stopped breathing. They did CPR there on the field and they got him back … but they lost him about two minutes before they got to the hospital.” – Sports Illustrated
