NEWS | ESPN Cutting Jobs, “Managing Costs”


The competition building up giving ESPN problems? Several new sports stations have blown up or will be coming such as Fox Sports 1 Network. ABC News Rachel Cohen reported that ESPN will be cutting jobs and it is the most recent division of Disney to do so. They did not state how many jobs would be cut but majority of the employees of ESPN work in Bristol Connecticut (4,000) and 3,000 worldwide.

Reports state that costs to broadcast have increased and right fees.

“We are implementing changes across the company to enhance our continued growth while smartly managing costs. While difficult, we are confident that it will make us more competitive, innovative and productive” – ESPN statement

In 2011, the governor Dannel Malloy announced ESPn would receive millions in state ta for a digitial technology building.
