The toughest place to be as a professional sports team is in New York. The media will eat you alive and that’s exactly what’s happening to the New York Jets. Now, the preseason will begin this week, but the Jets fans didn’t care too much as they booed one of their players at a scrimmage game.
Mark Sanchez is definitely going to have to work his magic to get the love back from his fans as he was booed after throwing an interception in the game, intercepted by Antonio Cromartie. He redeemed himself with a 57 yard touchdown pass to Stephen Hill, but the cheers were all for rookie quarterback Geno Smith from WVU.
Smith completed nine of 16 passes for 77 yards, with no turnovers. The second-round pick got the start and worked mostly with the first-team offense because it was his turn in the quarterback rotation.
He continued to impress with his poise and arm strength, but he led the offense to only three points in four possessions. After seven practices and one scrimmage, the ballyhooed quarterback competition is too close to call.
Who will Rex Ryan pick to start the season?
