According to several sources and Sports Illustrated, when Steve Kerr took the head coaching job for the Golden State Warriors, he had already verbally agreed to the New York Knicks.

Phil Jackson told Wall Street that Kerr stated he would be the Knicks coach after offering a four year deal. Of course the Warriors probably knew this, giving Kerr a five year $25M deal, signed and legit.
