Riots and protests have started in St. Louis today as a black 18-year old was shot dead yesterday by police. The teen, Michael Brown, was shot in the suburban area and was unarmed according to ABC News.
However, CBS News reported an update at 11:47am today during the news conference that St. Louis County Police Chief Jon Belmar said the shooting occurred because of an altercation:
Belmar said at a news conference Sunday morning that a Ferguson Police officer had an encounter with two people. He says one person allegedly pushed the officer back into a patrol car and assaulted the officer.
He says there was a struggle over the officer’s weapon and one shot was fired in the car. The officer then got out of his vehicle and shot at “a subject.”
He says the man suffered more than a couple gunshots, but “not many more than that.”
Residents were so angry that they were yelling “kill the police” that afternoon according to CBS News.
Federal investigation is being asked for by the NAACP.
