This murder became national news as the young intern, Chandra Levy, remains were found in Washington D.C’s Rock Creek Park in 2002. She was missing for a year. The intern was romantically involved with married U.S. Represenative Gary Condit. Many believe that affair is what got her killed. Condit denied the affair when he was first questioned.
However in 2010, Ingmar Guandique, an undocumented immigrant from El Salvador, was found guilty. He was granted a new trial last year and now, the charges have been dropped as the prosecutor told NY Daily News they cannot convict him “based on recent unforeseen developments that were investigated over the past week”. The jailhouse informant has been accused of lying and misleading investigators.
The reason he was arrested the first time was because it was similiar to other attacks he allegedly committed on female joggers.
His defense team had plans to revisit the theory that Condit killed Levy.
Guandique is now with U.S. Immigration and Custom Enformation to be deployed.
