WTNH confirms that Connecticut has stopped accepting applications and will send out cancellation notices to thousands of families using the ‘Care4Kids’ program. The program, which assist 20,000 families a year, assist in getting child care while the parent(s) are working but cannot afford it. It also assist if after school care. The program cost $100M a year, half paid by the federal government. With changes in the federal rules, CT has to put an additional $33M.
The director of the largest day care in New Haven says half of the families use the program. It’s a crisis for families and day care businesses.
