Jussie Smollett, known for his role as ‘Jamal Lyons’ in “Empire”, was hospitalized according to the Chicago Police Department after being attacked by two suspects.
Per reports, the two suspects yelled out racial and homophobic slurs at Smollett while he was walking. They then attacked him and poured unknown chemical substance on him. Then they wrapped a rope around his nick and fled the scene.
Reports state he is in good condition and police are investigating. The Chicago police spokesperson Anthony Gugliemli released a statement:
Overnight, the Chicago Police Department received a report of a possible racially-charged assault and battery involving a cast member of the television show Empire. Given the severity of the allegations, we are taking this investigation very seriously and treating it as a possible hate crime. Detectives are currently working to gather video, identify potential witnesses and establish an investigative timeline.
