After Tremont Waters experienced of the best moments of his life, he will now be going through one of the worst.
Reports confirm that Edward Waters Jr., Tremont’s father, was found dead in a Super 8 Hotel in West Haven Connecticut yesterday afternoon. Chief Medical Examiner says the death is ruled as a suicide.
Tremont just signed a two-way contract after the Boston Celtics selected him with their 51st pick in the 2019 NBA Draft. Before the draft, Tremont was ranked 37 overall in the 2017 high school class as he attended Notre Dame High in West Haven Connecticut. He committed to LSY and played for two seasons before declaring for the draft.
During his two seasons at LSU, he averaged 15.3 points per game, 5.8 assists, 2.8 steals with 43% shooting.
Yale’s basketball coach James Jones knew the Waters very well.
“He was an extremely dedicated father who put his son and family before himself, ” said Jones, “It’s a sad situation. You look at a lot of people who did what he did in believing in his son, and he really got him to where he is, to great heights. Obviously, Tremont deserves a lot of the credit for that. But I don’t think Tremont gets to where he is now without his father.”
